Crossing the finish line.

Thanks very much to Jessica's mum for these videos. Enjoy.

Let the race begin.

Thanks so much to Jaydyn's mum for these great photos of the boys at the Cross Country. I loved seeing them as I only get to see them cross the fences. I bet all the parents will be thrilled to see them too. Thanks also to Max's mum  for the great photos I have added into the slideshow.

"I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in !"

said the Big Bad Hairdryer!

We have been reading stories about "The Three Little Pigs". We wrote stories about the characters in the story using the characters traits we brainstormed after reading lots of different versions of the story. We have made a big house with different houses on each side, so we can act out the story at next weeks assembly. It's not quite finished but you will see it next week.
On Friday when our big buddies came, Mrs Paterson gave us 8 straws, 2 large pieces of newspaper and some tape.....
"What's this for?" we all thought.
Mrs Paterson then said, "You have 30 minutes to work together to make a house that the Big Bad Hairdryer can't blow down!"
This is what happened.

Surprise visit from Room 11:

Yesterday there was a knock at the door and in came Mrs Cowie and Room 11. Last week at assembly Room 11 had been presented with the shield for participating fully in assembly and showing good Riverlands School manners. On Tuesday singing went right up to bell time so the shield hadn't been presented.

Well guess what????? Mrs Cowie chose Room 2 as the best class of the afternoon. I am so proud of you Room 2. What a great effort.

Celebrations:

We have been talking about our families and how we celebrate things together. We are hoping to find out about children in other countries and how they celebrate. We have had lots of people turning 5 so we have had fun talking about birthdays and asking our parents about their birthdays. We did pencil sketches of ourselves ,then Mrs Paterson went over them with vivid. We used watercolours to colour them and stuck them on a background that says "happy birthday" in lots of different fonts.
We think they look great. What do you think? Leave us a comment.

Alliteration:

On Friday Mr Paterson came to teach us for a while. He started by calling us funny names that had us all laughing. Names like "Marvellous Max", "Ferocious Finn". Then he told us all about Alliteration. We didn't really understand at the start but by the time Mrs Paterson came back we had a bit of an idea.

On Monday Mrs Paterson helped us find lots of words that started like our name and together we made up fun rhymes. While we worked with Mrs Paterson, the rest of the class made cute faces using scrap coloured paper.

We think Mr Paterson was pretty impressed when he came back on Tuesday and saw what we had done.

Support staff day

We are really lucky to have Mrs Boyce as our teacher aide. The children made her a beautiful flower brooch that said lovely things about her and how she helps us. Thank you Mrs Boyce, we love having you in our room.

Harvest Friday Buddy Fun

We had so much fun last Friday with our big buddies at Harvest Friday. We made little walnut boats and feijoa muffins to sell for 10c and 20c. Our buddies helped us make choices from all the stalls. It was hard choosing as there were so many things for sale. We were very happy that we made $17.00

Tracks are for Trains with Constable Sue Bush.

At the beginning of Term 2 we were lucky to have Constable Sue come and visit us to talk about "Tracks are for Trains". We walked to the railway crossing and practiced all our safe walking skills from Term 1. Unfortunately the train came 30 minutes early but we got to look at all the things that help keep us safe like bells, lines to park behind. The following week we walked along the Rail Trail with Rooms 1 & 11 to see what an uncontrolled crossing looked like. Would you believe it...the train was cancelled! We were very lucky that they were working on the tracks changing the old sleepers for new concrete ones. We were amazed at how 1 machine could take out the old sleeper, dig holes for the new one and then push through the new one while sitting in his cab.
