We have been reading stories about "The Three Little Pigs". We wrote stories about the characters in the story using the characters traits we brainstormed after reading lots of different versions of the story. We have made a big house with different houses on each side, so we can act out the story at next weeks assembly. It's not quite finished but you will see it next week.
On Friday when our big buddies came, Mrs Paterson gave us 8 straws, 2 large pieces of newspaper and some tape.....
"What's this for?" we all thought.
Mrs Paterson then said, "You have 30 minutes to work together to make a house that the Big Bad Hairdryer can't blow down!"
This is what happened.

Surprise visit from Room 11:
Yesterday there was a knock at the door and in came Mrs Cowie and Room 11. Last week at assembly Room 11 had been presented with the shield for participating fully in assembly and showing good Riverlands School manners. On Tuesday singing went right up to bell time so the shield hadn't been presented.
Well guess what????? Mrs Cowie chose Room 2 as the best class of the afternoon. I am so proud of you Room 2. What a great effort.

Celebrations:
We have been talking about our families and how we celebrate things together. We are hoping to find out about children in other countries and how they celebrate. We have had lots of people turning 5 so we have had fun talking about birthdays and asking our parents about their birthdays. We did pencil sketches of ourselves ,then Mrs Paterson went over them with vivid. We used watercolours to colour them and stuck them on a background that says "happy birthday" in lots of different fonts.
Alliteration:
On Friday Mr Paterson came to teach us for a while. He started by calling us funny names that had us all laughing. Names like "Marvellous Max", "Ferocious Finn". Then he told us all about Alliteration. We didn't really understand at the start but by the time Mrs Paterson came back we had a bit of an idea.
On Monday Mrs Paterson helped us find lots of words that started like our name and together we made up fun rhymes. While we worked with Mrs Paterson, the rest of the class made cute faces using scrap coloured paper.
We think Mr Paterson was pretty impressed when he came back on Tuesday and saw what we had done.
