Today we celebrated with the children who were finishing the Early Words Programme. They have worked very hard and are now confident readers. Well done for all your hard work. We were lucky that Mrs Woodhouse was able to join us. She gave each of the children a special pencil to go with their certificate. We played musical chairs and then ate yummy cupcakes Mrs Paterson made us. We had to say the word on our cupcake before we were allowed to eat it.

Today we finally planted our beans in the school garden. We had 8 beans that had grown their second lot of leaves. When we emptied out the pots we found 2 more beans that had started to grow roots, so we planted them too. We watered them to give them a good start. We also covered over some carrot seeds. then we checked the sunflowers we planted a few weeks ago and planted some cosmos plants. The wild flower garden is going to look great when we come back from the holidays. And we might have beans to eat as well. YUM!

Today we tried using kidpix to draw the life cycle of a sunflower seed. Our goal was to draw the dirt and add several seeds. Then we had to add roots, then shoots, then some leaves and finally a sunflower. Although some of us didn't get all the steps in our picture, Mrs Paterson thought we did very well. If you click on one picture then press play, each picture will pop up for you to see.

I am sure you will have a lovely time with Mrs Boyce over the next 4 weeks. Keep an eye on my blog to see "Where in the world Mrs Paterson is." I will try to put some photos for you to see some of the exciting things I am seeing ( as well as ET of course).

Jacob and Jaxson have been practicing writing sentences. Didn't they do well.

Last night "Star Bear" went home with Jacob because he had a such a wonderful day at school . When Star Bear came back... wow, how beautiful a clean and white he looked. Jacob's mum wrote this wonderful poem.

Star Bear was dirty, in need of a wash,
So into the washing machine he went with a splosh.
In went the powder and down with the lid,
Round and round, bear came out like a new kid.
Sparkling clean and white, Bear sat by the fire.
Mum said Bear might shrink in the drier!

This morning the power went out in Room 2 and it was really dark. Mr Parsons was passing by and came in to tell us what was happening. He decided to stay and join in our shape games. We really liked showing him the cool things we do in Room 2 to learn all about Geometry.

Today we were set a challenge... to rid our class of Nasty Cold BUGS!

We learnt how germs spread through the air when we sneeze and when we cough into our hands, we can spread our germs to others. We learnt how to use a tissue. If a sneeze or cough came on suddenly we learnt to use our elbow. We should always bin our tissue after use and wash our hands with soap. A reporter from the Marlborough Express came and took photos of us. Look out for us in the paper.

Ask us about what we have learnt. Hopefully it will help us keep healthy at school.

Today was Global Wind Day. Mrs Robinson gave us some little wind mills and it was so windy that some of them blew away. It was hard to work out which way the wind was blowing as it kept changing direction.

Our big friends from Room 10 make lovely books for all the Room 2 children to help them remember their first few months at Riverlands School. Today Hayden received his special book.
I hope you will enjoy looking back at your special book in years to come Hayden.

Yesterday we let go a beautiful monarch butterfly that had hatched in our classroom. We were really surprised to find another butterfly had hatched during the day. Because it has been so cold, the butterflies took a lot longer to hatch than normal so we were very excited.

Today we had fun learning basketball skills with Mike Fitchett. Mike is a player in the Nelson Giants. We had lots of fun learning all sorts of things we can do with a basketball. Some of us were really good.

We had a wonderful Harvest Festival today to celebrate Arbor Day which is early next week. We made 2 different types of muffins using things harvested from our orchard. We made Feijoa, walnut and sultana muffins and Feijoa muffins. They all sold out quickly. Thanks to Mrs Boon for helping us make and bake our delicious muffins. There were lots of fun things to do and different things to taste. We raised over $300 to go towards new plants for our Edible Garden. Well done everyone.

Today Rylie, Emire and Blake came for their first school visit. They were lucky that Friday is PuMP day. We had lots of fun.

Our wonderful self portraits.

We have finally finished our scarecrow. Thanks Hayden for letting us have your scarecrow dress up. I hope the birds stay away from our newly planted vegetables.
We have had such a busy few weeks. Last week Room 1 harvested some more vegetables from the garden. We got to cook our own roasties. Mrs Hepburn had cut the veges up and we put them all in a roasting pan. We even cooked some of the radishes that we grew. When they were all cooked we eat them all. They were delicious.

Watch this great movie as many times as you can. The more times we watch it, the more votes we can get for our school. Imagine what we could do with $10,000!!! Well done guys, you look and sound fantastic. You should win just for that.
This is a great website to go to to make healthy lunch choices. The children had fun seeing how healthy they could make their lunchbox. How well can you do?

How to make Pocket Plots on PhotoPeach

Last week we had time learning football skills with Paul. We learnt lots of ways to move the football. We used the inside and outside of our feet. We used our toes, knees, foreheads, top of our foot to control the ball. We know we need space around us to stop other people taking our ball away. It was lots of fun.
