We have been very lucky to have our own set of little gardens. We had hoped to get them planted earlier but with all the frosts we decided to hold off. They have been in the garden for 2 weeks and are looking great. Been getting plenty of rain in last few weeks and now the ground is rocking and rolling. Hope they survive.

On Friday we were privileged to have Vrishali and Navitha's mums tell us about Diwali and how it is celebrated in their families. They shared some wonderful food and showed us a beautiful rangoli picture made of coloured rice. It was nice that Navitha's Grandad could join us too. We loved seeing the beautiful clothing worn for special celebrations. Thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon.
Every fortnight we get the chance to be part of the KEGs ( kids edible garden) programme with Mrs Hepburn. She teaches us about growing and caring for plants in our school garden. Last time we weeded and planted spring onions. Next week we hope to plant our little garden seedlings.
This term we have started Discovery Time in our team. Each room had a variety of activities for us to try. We are working on developing our Key Competencies. We talked about what "Managing Ourselves" might Look like, Sound like and Feel like. Over the first 3 weeks we were able to try all the activities.

We were lucky to start the term with 4 sessions of tennis coaching with Reilly. We learnt lots of skills to help us to be able to have a rally across the net with a partner. Some children are quite keen to learn a bit more. We loved doing the hamburger challenge at the end of each session. We could almost do it with 4 people!
The beginning of Term 4 was a very busy one with visits from the Life Education classroom and Grasshoppers tennis.
At the end of Term 3 we were lucky to receive 29 little gardens from Schoolkit. On the last day of Term we all helped plant them. Mrs McLaren has kindly offered to babysit when Mrs Paterson is away. We are very excited to see how much they grow.
After doing lots of measurement activities about jack and the beanstalk, we planted beans from Mrs Paterson's garden. They grew really tall. We are going to plant them at home and see if we get lots of yummy beans.

Science Fun in Room 2

We had lots of fun on Friday making new colours from red, yellow and blue.
We wondered how we could make new colours without actually mixing them together ourselves.
Look what we came up with. The food colouring soaked up the paper towels and into the water in the jars, mixing the colours. After we had made orange and green, we mixed blue and red to make purple.

Holiday Postcards:

Before the holidays Mrs Paterson gave us all 2 postcards so that we could write to her and tell us about our holidays. We were all surprised when we received a postcard from Mrs Paterson in our mailboxes at home.

On Monday there was a postcard from Charlie waiting on the school doorstep and today Mrs Paterson received 10 more postcards! She was really excited and read them all out to us. Some of us had written 2 cards.

Tomorrow we are going to get a special dip in the lucky dip box.

Mrs Paterson was very proud of us for keeping up our learning over the holidays.

Wild Wet Fun Afternoon

On Thursday we had a wonderful time at school when all the other classes were away. We were in 4 mixed groups and we had fun doing water relays, blowing bubbles, playing "dry, dry, wet" and bouncing on the bouncy castle.
Unfortunately there was a bush fire so Mr Hayles had to leave with the fire truck before our water obstacle course. Ben and Tom did a great job wetting us with the fire hose as we went around the course.

What happened?

We were able to answer most of our wonderings but decided not to try out Hendrix's wondering!!!could have been a quiet afternoon if he had been right!!!!!

Thinking like a scientist

On Friday we read "Bartholomew and the Oobleck". We decided that we would make some ourselves.
We needed cornflour , water and something to colour it ? We used limd jelly ".
We each asked a discovery question before we started.

Working with our Thinking Buddies

Today we read a story called "Quiet!"
Pa Lion told the animals that if they woke up baby Leo, he would eat them.
We decided to use Ida Ideas to come up with a way to keep the animals safe from Pa Lion.

Hudson's motorbike race meeting

In the weekend Hudson's family went to Nugget for motorbike race. He got a special medal for competing.

On Thursday we went outside and looked at the Room 2 sunflowers. Mrs Tibble showed us how to sketch the flowers with pencil. When we went back to class we used pastel to colour our flowers.
On Friday we used tissue paper to make a nice frame for our flowers. We think they look wonderful.

Look at the sunflowers last years Room 2 children grew from seed. They didn't grow very high but they made a lovely display. They are starting to die off now and this year's Room 2 noticed the seeds that were starting to form in the middle of the flowers. We decided to try and "harvest" (Fred's idea)the seeds so we can grown more sunflowers. We put a paper bag over the biggest one to stop the birds getting the seeds.

Meet the teacher evening.

Learning in action

On Friday Mrs Paterson gave each of us a small plastic bag with white play dough in it. We talked about what we could do to change the colour to make it look better. Mrs Paterson told us it was "Magic play dough". She showed us how to knead the dough and look what happened !! It was magic. We all made different colours then made our names.

I wonder how she did that?
Do you know?
