Last week we were lucky enough to go tree planting with Room 8 at Simmonsen Reserve. We helped to plant 200 trees and then we weeded around trees that children who use to be in Room 2, planted 2 years ago. We could hardly see them until we pulled away the long grass and weeds. Then we put mulch around the bottom of all the trees to help the roots keep moist and stop them drying out.
It is going to be exciting to watch our trees grow as we grow in our time at Riverlands School.
I wonder how big they will be when we are in Year 8. We will have to wait and see.

Earthquake Fundraiser for St Paul's School on PhotoPeach

On Friday we celebrated our learning with Room 1 and a large group of parents. We were proud to be able to share with them some of the interesting things we had discovered during our volcano inquiry.Our cinquain poems and "things we have learnt" slideshow are both posted on this blog for you to see. Of course one of the most exciting parts of the afternoon was the Volcano Party. What an amazing array of Volcano food. We had to invite our buddy classes to help eat it all. Thanks to all the parents for supporting your children by attending and /or providing food.

Today at Buddy time our big buddies made smoothies with us. They had brought all sorts of yummy ingredients ( not all so healthy) including berries, yoghurt, icecream, milk, chocolate, and other yummy stuff. They tasted delicious. Thanks Buddies.

Volcano Cinquains on PhotoPeach

Today when I was at school I was lucky enough to see our last butterfly hatch out. It has been over a month since it changed into its chysalis. It has been so cold it has taken twice as long as normal.

On the last day of Term 2 we had a party to farewell 6 children moving on to Room 1. We played pass the parcel, musical chairs and showed off our dancing skills. We had delicious cupcakes, fairybread and yummy fresh pineappple & kiwifriut. We hope Max, Lachlan, Cody, Reuben, Sophie and Rilla enjoy their new class. Don't forget to visit us in Room 2.Have a look at the photos below.

Imagine having to go down to the river to collect water every day for washing and cooking. You can see by the look on Max's face that it was a very hard job.

Today we had fun making funny sentences. We even remembered to have use capital letters and fullstops.

The Journey so Far on PhotoPeach

What an exciting afternoon yesterday. We went outside to see what all the noise was about and saw the builders had fenced off Room 5. Now we have to go the long way round to get outside. Then before we knew it things started to happen!! Room 5 began to rise up into the air. We looked out the window to see a big truck beginning to lift it off the foundations and ready to be moved onto its new site.

Jackson gave us a jar full of swan plant that had some big caterpillars quietly munching. It has been interesting watching them change.We are really looking forward to seeing all the other changes in the next few weeks.

Today Fireman Ross came back for a visit. He brought Fireman Dion with him and Mr Parsons. Did you know Mr Parsons was a fireman? We did.
These are all the things firemen wear when they go into a fire. They are hot and heavy but very important.
When Mr Parsons put on his BA (breathing apparatus) he sounded like Darth Vadar from Star Wars.
We know that if we were trapped in a fire and heard that sound we wouldn't be scared. We would yell out very loud so the fireman can find us quickly and get us to safety.
