Last week we had time learning football skills with Paul. We learnt lots of ways to move the football. We used the inside and outside of our feet. We used our toes, knees, foreheads, top of our foot to control the ball. We know we need space around us to stop other people taking our ball away. It was lots of fun.

On Friday at House meetings, the theme was "Being Active". All of the Juniors took part in a "Jump Jam" session. The teachers assessed their house groups against the key competency " Participation".
I was really proud of all the children for giving it a go, especially as many had never done it before.
Well done.

The Amazing El Gregoe : What we liked best?
I liked the mask when he did the funny talk and he danced to Michael Jackson and also the dog that sang. Jonty
I liked the parrots that disappeared and 1 came back. Sophie
I liked the whole show because it was very cool. Sidney
I liked the dog when he used his WITS and ignored El Gregoe. Tegan
I liked the part when the dog said, "Get out of here" and when he ignored him. Seb

Then we had our very first reading book called "The birthday cake". We painted different coloured cakes and put them together to make a big cake. Then we added captions. They looked good enough to eat.

Well it is hard to believe there is only one day to go until school finishes for the year. We have been very busy making Christmas gifts for our parents, hope you like them. Today we finished our special advent calendars for our Mums. I told the children they could have 2 days off and then on December 18 you can start opening your own calendar and enjoy having your children help you out leading up to Christmas. ENJOY!

Last week we were lucky enough to go tree planting with Room 8 at Simmonsen Reserve. We helped to plant 200 trees and then we weeded around trees that children who use to be in Room 2, planted 2 years ago. We could hardly see them until we pulled away the long grass and weeds. Then we put mulch around the bottom of all the trees to help the roots keep moist and stop them drying out.
It is going to be exciting to watch our trees grow as we grow in our time at Riverlands School.
I wonder how big they will be when we are in Year 8. We will have to wait and see.

On Friday we celebrated our learning with Room 1 and a large group of parents. We were proud to be able to share with them some of the interesting things we had discovered during our volcano inquiry. Our cinquain poems and "things we have learnt" slideshow are both posted on this blog for you to see. Of course one of the most exciting parts of the afternoon was the Volcano Party. What an amazing array of Volcano food. We had to invite our buddy classes to help eat it all. Thanks to all the parents for supporting your children by attending and /or providing food.
